Unimog trailer hitches for 1550 and 2450.

Below are a couple of examples of fabracated hitches for the unimog.  The frame on

the 1300 is the same as the 1550 so they would work on the 1300.  Both of these

hitches are bolted on (no welding to the frame).  I most cases we used existing bolt

holes just making sure the bolt was long enough to get a good purchase or go with

longer bolts.  Make sure the new bolts are grade 8.8 or above and the same size.  Since

the mog is metric do not use SAE bolt's since the hole size is a little different and may be prone to

loosening.  I have had that happen to me in another application.

Notice the hooks on the outside of the hitch.  Since I trailer this occasionally there were added to provide a

convient points to attach chains.

I have had this hitch on here for a couple of years.  I have pulled trailers and loads up to 14,000lbs with no problem.

I would recommend making a hitch so you can pull the average trailer not just a special one you may have.  It seems

once you get the hitch you end up using it to pull alot of different trailers.

The hitch is only as strong as the drop down bar so make sureand get a strong one.  This one has a solid piece that

goes into the reciever.

The height of the frame on the 2450 is almost a foot taller than the 1550 so the drop down had to be more

to get it to average trailer tongue height.

Both of these hitches are bolted to the exsisting holes in the frames.  I have to get longer bolts to

make up for the extra thickness of the hitch.

Since the hitches are bolted on if I am going somewhere that the hitch may get in the way I can unbolt

it.  It will effect your departure angle but with portals you have so much ground clearance that has never been a

problem so far.

Don't forget to make some places to put the saftey chains.

What ever the drop down distance of your hitch and the reciever attachment you want to make sure the

trailer you pull rides level.  The mog will probably pull most anything attached to it.  How far and how fast

is another story.
