Difference between a OM352 and a OM366A
The OM352 and OM366 are the two common engines in most of the diesel Unimogs. There are a number
of variation of each some have turbo's and some do not. The later model 366 can be natural aspirated,
turbo charged, or turbo and intercooler. The 366 uses the same block size as the 352. You can bolt in a 366
where a 352 was before with very little modification. Kai made a statement on the mog list that the 352
may be a more robust engine than the 366 since they both have the same block size but the 366 was made
to put out more horsepower. The 366 has a .5mm wider bore than the 352 and a shorter stroke. There
probably is a lot of merit in that statement comparing some of the engine components below.
The piston on the left is 352 and the right is 366A. The 352 has five rings two of the oil rings while the 366
has only three. The 352 piston is longer than the 366.
The 352 rod on the left is beefier than the 366 on the right.
Piston out of a 366A. has three rings.
The piston out of a 352 has five pistons.
The bowl in the top of the piston on the left is a 366 and the right is a 352. The 366 has a larger volume and
is deeper.
The 366 engine is a sleeved engine while the 352 is not. The picture is not the best but I think you can see
the 2-3mm sleeve on the edge of the cylinder.
