Unimog Air Conditioning Final Installation
The Greentop kit comes with all the fitting. There are three sizes of coolant hoses.
10 mm
8 mm
6 mm
The 10 mm hose comes with he fitting already crimped on and it goes from the evaporator to the suction side
of the compressor.
The 8 mm hose has two fittings for it. The fitting look pretty similar but the 8 mm ones are larger where they
go into the 8mm hose. These fitting go from the discharge side of the compressor to the condenser. Since I
got the remote installation kit I had to cut the hoses and clamp on the fitting. The kit contained plenty of hose.
If you get the regular kit I think some of the like are steel and everything is pre-made.
The clips used to hold the fitting to the hose take a special tool to crimp them down. Since I didn't have a
tool I tried a pliers and that did not work. So I ended grinding down a set of pliers till I got the tool to work.
With this tool the clamps when on real easy.
All of the fitting went on real easy. You need to be carefully and make sure the green O ring does not get lost.
You also have the lubricate the O ring. I used ester 100 for that which is a A/C lubricant. There is a caution
in the instructions not to tighten the fitting to tight to the condenser since the fitting is aluminum and may be damaged.
Here is a picture of the hole in the fire wall. The two wires are for the fan on the condenser and the trineary switch
on the dryer. The plastic line is for the bottom of the evaporator to drain the condensation. The tube supplied is
the one in the picture. I have replaced it with one a few feet longer so the water goes past the frame before it drips
out. I made a larger rubber grommet to protect hoses and covered them with rubber soundproofing.
Here is a picture charging the system. The manuel say use 1.1 gram of r134 but I think it must be a miss print.
Probably means 1.1 Kg but not sure. Since a friend did it for me we didn't weight the cylinder so I don't know
how much we used. He added 6 oz of a/c lubricant. First we put the system on vacuum for about one hour.
Checked it for 10 minutes to make sure we did not lose and vacuum and charged it.
Works Great will cool the cab in a few minutes. The temp was only 80 degrees so I haven't tested it yet in high
heat but expect it will work great.
