Unimog Hauler For Sale
This is a pictorial log of the conversion of my semi truck which is used to haul my unimog around the country.
To make it more functional I am had it converted to a full camper rather than a sleeper. The conversion was preformed
by Butler Motor coach in Wisconsin. They took delivery of the truck the first week in August 2004.I looked at other
manufactures of these type of vehicles and was not impressed with the construction quality or materials.I wanted it built
strong like my unimog not having to worry about things falling apart.
Since it is a long way to the west coast from Indiana I wanted to go fast and in comfort. The 14 liter cummins fits the bill. With the governor set at 88 you have no problem getting there. Since this is registered as an RV you do not need a CDL to drive it. The cost of plates went from about $1200 to $49 in Indiana. The insurance was cut in half to about $700 for full coverage. It will pull anything you can connect to it.
It will sleep three guys comfortable or a family of 4-5 depending on the size of the kids and how well they like each other. Ther is a fairly large 3-way refrigerater, 6000 kw generator, large bathroom for a rv, air conditioning, gas furance and water heater. Cd in the dash has a plug in for ipod. It has a 9-speed eaton transmission rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago.

I used this tractor to haul my trucks around for a couple of years. It was a very good vehicle never had any problem with it
always made it home on time. But I wanted a little more comfort for my self and friends.
This is a 1996 International semi. I have owned it since 2001 and it has been all over the country from the east coast to the west coast hauling the unimog around. It has 600,000 miles on it and still run great. It has a Cummins N-14 (14 liter engine) with 430hp. I
had Jake brakes installed to help with braking when going over the rocky mountains.

Example of how the wall are constructed.

Not my truck but this is how the walls look during construction.

Jig use to assemble wall. They are build sort of like a house. Build the wall horizontal and
them install vertical.

There are many different designs and layout that you can do. I looked at the large manufactures of
these conversions but they were not to flexible. They would not do the conversion on my semi
tractor since they would have to do to much custom work. I really liked my truck.

You can look at picture's on paper all day and thinking you know what you want but Randy likes to
look at the big picture.

We discussed the layout for many hours and the above it what was finally decided upon.

This is the floor of the camper. It is made of 2 inch tube on 2 ft centers.

The truck is being stripped on the excess parts.

Parts of the cab save maybe there are a few parts that can be used.

Cutting off the back half of the cab. To late the change my mind now.
