Air Conditioning Unimog 1550
Air Conditioner Installation Part 3 Condenser on Chassis
Finding a place to put the condenser was the hardest part. If you have the option I would
recommend that you put it in the spot recommended by the manufacture which is under
the drives door. I think that provide all the hardware to bolt it right in. I got the kit
with a remote mount. I had a muffler in that spot. Above is a bracket I made to put
the condenser between frame rails behind the transmission.
I had the little T's to slide in the groove that are on all four sides of the condenser. They
are 1 inch pieces of flat stock about 1 1/2 inches long. I drilled a hole in them and welded in
a 8mm bolt. Then ground down the head to clear the channel I slide them in on the side
of the condenser. The small L's were used to put a bolt through to tighten down the unit.
Here is the unit bolted into the frame.
I welded on some brackets to the bed mounts and mount for the extra fuel tank on the drivers side and bolted
a bracket onto the mount for the fuel tank. Then just bolted the unit it. You can see on the drivers side the unit
is very close to the bed mount. It had to be raised up to clear the transmission. I spent alot of time making
sure it would not hit the bed. Had to change the design once after I decided it would probably hit. Now is will
be close but I think I am OK.
Here is how I mounted the condenser I could tighten it down.
